Medica HealthCare takes great pride in serving its members. One way we do so is by helping members maximize their benefits through our Social Services Unit.
We offer these services as a courtesy to all Medica HealthCare members. Participation is voluntary and will not affect members' enrollment as a Medica HealthCare member.
Extra Help with prescription drug costs through the Medicare Savings Program helps people with limited income and resources pay copayments, coinsurance and deductibles for Medicare Part D prescription drug costs. You may qualify for Extra Help or a Low Income Subsidy (LIS) if your yearly income and resources are below certain limits.
Beneficiaries with incomes and assets below certain levels may qualify for a Medicare Savings Program (MSPs) and receive a Medicare Part B premium return. MSPs are also known as dual eligible programs.
The Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) is administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. SNAP provides electronic benefits issued in the form of a plastic card similar to a bank debit card. These electronic benefit cards can be used like cash at most grocery stores.
Households can use SNAP benefits to buy food for the household such as bread and cereal, fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dairy products and seeds or plants which produce food. Households cannot use SNAP benefits to buy beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, non-food items, vitamins or medicines.
Medical assistance through Medicaid is designed to meet the long-term care needs of beneficiaries with certain chronic conditions. Our Social Services Unit regularly assists members in applying for either full or partial Medicaid benefits to help with long-term care needs. These include:
Telephonic Assistance Programs
Medica HealthCare's Unit can help members apply for a variety of monthly discount programs or free cell phone service. The Lifeline program provides discounts on monthly telephone charges for qualified subscribers. Link Up provides qualified subscribers with a one-time discount (up to a maximum of $30) off of the initial installation fee for one wireline service.
Free Cell Phone Service
Members who qualify can get a free cell phone through the Government Cellphone Program and Lifeline. These phones come with voice mail, call waiting and caller ID. Beneficiaries typically get up to 250 minutes of airtime at no charge per month.
